Meeting call to order at 7:05 pm

Welcome and Committee Introductions

Kick-off Commentary

Event planning was delayed due to COVID where Principal Drayton has asked that we meet once the school year has started and events can be finalized.
Budget planning being evaluated by Al Haber and Sandy Baccam to work with each committee chair lead with the hope of getting approval by the end of the month.
Approval occurs by the FOM board.

FOM Meeting Schedule
Monthly meetings to occur where timing is aligned to the LSC meeting schedule. Typically scheduled after the LSC meeting.
LSC meeting schedule is already confirmed but not yet released.
Committee members need to sign up for a least one LSC meeting where there should be an FOM member present for their monthly meeting.
Thoughts for the FOM monthly meeting schedule would be to switch between morning and evenings.
Morning meetings could be potentially virtual.
Evening meetings could be virtual/in person.
After-school meeting on the blacktop is an idea as well to get parent presence.
Feedback: Evening meetings had more participation from board members; morning meetings would have visitors as well as board members.

Julie Schulhof to confirm what documents should be included/documented.
Ideas include: Room parent guide; Budget; Sponsors; Event calendar

Welcome Efforts
Principal Dayton: District wants to push to engage with families as parents were limited with participating since the COVID pandemic occurred.
Priority index used as a basis for funding; Mayer given $3800 to be used for a “Back to School” bash/Welcome Back push.
COVID friendly event including a tour of the building (if possible). If not possible at event, sochool building will be open on 8/28-29 where Principal Dayton is open to 10-15 minute tours.
Principal Dayton/Teachers/Teachers Assistant could do a video tour or pictures. FOM to support where needed, including sign up sheets for families and volunteers.
Focus on new family orientation and meeting teachers.
Operationally, can returning families who are new from last year be included? Yes, it would be an abbreviated tour. Classroom visits might not be an option with sanitation and teachers.

Welcome Back Committee - Jacki Van Hout
Buddy concept: Start after email kick-off email from principal, followed the “Back to School” bash and general email communication/mailbox
Former room parents could be a part of the volunteer list
Planning for the “Back to School” bash is already in progress. Event is happening August 27th from 12 - 2pm.
Email “NewToMayer” to be created for Buddy Concept

School Box Update - Roona Shah
300 school boxes purchased, more than previous year.
Volunteers will be needed to help distribute boxes. Previous year had about 5 -10 volunteers.

Room Parent Communication - Millie Frank
Focus on knowledge transfer for the role where the previous person maintained a “google groups” to tie all the classrooms together.
Creating a Room Parent Handbook for room parents to use going into the role which will include best practices and insights to helping the teachers.
Looking to get feedback from FOM members and Principal Dayton on content.
● Millie to be a co-administrator to update the google groups to be cleaned up.
● Training videos exist to train teachers how to maintain google groups where Millie may not be required to create one. Principal Dayton to give teachers deadlines for creating their classroom lists in google groups.

Teacher committee members
Principal Dayton meeting to request volunteers in her staff meeting. Looking for 2 teachers.

Communication - Roona Shah
Bulldog Blast - Friday to Wednesday is spent collecting information. Test and approvals go out on
Wednesday with the mass distribution on Fridays at 2 pm.
Communication should be limited to a couple of sentences.
Advance notice on topics is preferred for known topics.

Social - Rowena Dumes/Kemper Florin
Back to School Bash and Fall Fest - Names to be defined.
Vendors with CPS approval are limited on August 27th as there are parallel CPS events happening.
Jewel to be used as a vendor for food.
Menchies can be on-site for August 27th.
Additional tables to be on-site to include information for Mayer groups.
Admin team can be out to support any questions that may come up, have the special/essentials teachers on the black top.
Jen Jones to meet with team and potentially provide games.
Feedback from Principal Dayton is parents want to purchase spirit wear for Spirit week.
Fall Fest would be a separate event for the week of September 13th or 20th with a new name.
CPS funds can be used at a different event as well.

New Assistant Principal on-boarding, orientations already happening.
COVID protocols are still being finalized
Year’s theme for “Reset and Re-Imagine Mayer”
