ABOUT THE WALKATHON

The Walkathon is the third of FOM's three largest, annual fundraisers. Funds raised from the Walkathon, as well as the other, smaller, frequent fundraisers throughout the year, such as purchasing school supplies, spirit wear, and Bulldog Bites food-fundraisers are ALL critical to bridging the funding gap.

Unfortunately, funding from Chicago Public Schools (CPS) barely meets Mayer's operating costs needed to maintain both Montessori and IB programs, plus uphold certifications in fine arts and music, as well as keep small classrooms with low student-to-teacher ratios, and allow building security in and around Mayer.

For families who have yet to experience the Walkathon, I can't emphasize enough just how special this day is. From beginning to end, you can't help but feel a sense of community and pride. New parents will see why they chose Mayer and veteran parents will remember why they stay. I am positive that all students would name the Walkathon as one of their favorite Mayer memories. The Walkathon is not only a fun day for students but it is also an opportunity for them to raise money - money used to maintain our strong reputation as a level one school.

HOW YOU CAN HELP


DONATE to your classroom, in any amount, to earn prizes!

Prizes the kids can earn:

  • First 100 kids to secure a donation wins a prize!

  • Classrooms that raise $750 receive a special prize!

  • The classroom in each grade that raises the most funds by Friday, May 23, receives a snow cone party the week of Walkathon.

  • If 8th-grade rooms raise a combined total of $1,500, they receive $300 for their graduation picnic


VOLUNTEER to help!

Friends of Mayer needs many volunteers to pull of this off. If you haven’t taken part in an event this year, this is the perfect time to get involved. There are various opportunities to help including setting up, handing out water, & counting laps. Its a really fun time! Stay tuned for the link to sign-up!
